Abstract

How do we address the issue of unemployment of adult learners irrespective of age, to align their skills in their field of expertise within a new cultural environment? How do we evaluate current skill sets of adult learners, conduct needs analysis and ascertain their training gaps? These are some of the questions this book attempts to answer through its step-by-step process of adult learning. Based on research the book incorporates competencies of adult training, needs analysis, instructional design, presentation and facilitation. this book demonstrates that by preparing a customized personal development plan, an action-plan document, short-term, mid-term and long-term goals for each learner, helps focus and realign their current strengths and skill sets strategically to the job within their key areas of expertise within no time. Thus clearing a path to achieving both comprehension an application learners themselves, the author  and the reader included – triggering each individual on the path towards his /  her Empowerment.

Abstract

What made Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Rabindranath Tagore, Helen Keller, Leo Tolstoy, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein heroes of their field and our world ? What enabled these individuals forge new paths following none others’ but their own, led by an inner fire raging firmly towards their intrinsic goals ? It can be said these individuals achieved their ‘full potential’ or, what Abraham Maslow a social scientist in 1943 termed in his research paper ‘Theory of Human Motivation’ as ‘self-actualization.’ How does one arrive on the path of self-actualization ? Can it be taught to an individual ? To realize more of one’s inner self and to achieve one’s true potential ? These are some of the questions and many more which the book attempts to answer. A research study was carried out to understand the extent to which ‘self-actualization’ was given importance particularly in multinational corporations (MNC’s) as stated in Maslow’s Theory. Since MNC’s are characterized by their global experiences having realized the immense value empowered individuals have on organizational progress, adopting largely human centric policies and programs.

Job Analysis and its Positive Impact on key Recruitment and Selection Processes: A Case Study

Books and Articles

Nov 2016
Publication year: 2017

Abstract

Following a Functional Job Analysis methodology in which job duties and job specifications were initially identified, key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes (KSAO’s) were extracted from critical statements using task statements and task inventory for a Canadian National Occupational job classification requisite position. The KSAO’s were further differentiated on the basis of Tasks, Context and Counter-productive behavioral components. A Performance Appraisal tool was developed based on an Absolute Rating System using Graphical Rating Scales aligned to the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes derived from job analysis. Job Performance Dimensions were explained for each of the task, contextual and counter-productive behaviors in terms of what each dimension meant in the context of the job; with a definition given for each job dimension including verbal anchors attached to a numerical scale with appropriate instructions for making a response. The recruitment action plan developed was then based on the Organizational and KSAO’s derived from the Job Analysis using a structured questionnaire.Findings show that an effective direct linkage can be established between Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes derived as a result of job analysis and a performance management system and with a Recruitment Action Plan, causing a critical alignment leading to effective selection and recruitment decisions, promotion and performance decision as well as many other important Human Resource related decision based on objective job related criteria. The processes adopted in this research illustrate to Managers how an effective Recruitment system along with valid selection instruments can be developed based on an objective and a legally defensible job analysis demonstrating how systematic selection decisions can be made, including a better aligned performance management tool and a recruitment action plan based on approaches adopted in this research.

Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2016
Publication year: 2016

Abstract

This paper is aimed at developing a valid performance management tool based on an accurate, detailed, thorough and thoughtful functional job analysis methodology set on North American human resources standards ” approved job fact sheet, job analysis questionnaire, task statements ” sheet, job duties, job statements and job specifications that were identified. Based on which, key knowledge, skills, abilities and other attributes (KSAO ” s) from the task inventory and task statements were subsequently derived. A performance management tool based on an absolute rating system using graphic rating scales was designed along with definition of job performance dimensions for a ” requisite ” customer care representative position based on the KSAO ” s derived. The job analysis carried out not only assures managers that a valid performance management instrument can be developed based on a job analysis, but also demonstrates to HR Managers how systematic human resource decisions can be based on approaches adopted in this research.

Abstract

The thesis addresses the perception of “Self-Actualization” and its impact in multinational companies with branches in Dubai’. A study was carried out to understand the extent to which ‘self-actualization’ was given importance as a motivating tool in organizations, vis-à-vis the ‘basic’ motivators, as stated in ‘Maslow’s Theory of Hierarchy of Needs’. The following two hypotheses arrived at were based on the study, survey and gaps uncovered from the research and related literature survey: – Hypothesis 1 – “Self-Actualization of Individuals leads to Increased Organizational Productivity” and Hypothesis 2 – “Multinational Companies in Dubai are focusing on achieving Self-Actualization of Individuals through their HR Tools”

Some of the applicational and the theoretical gaps uncovered after completion of the literature survey, that justified further research are: ‘How are today’s multinational companies focussing on achieving individuals’ growth need of self-actualization, which is perceived as being necessary for holistic organizational growth’? ‘How is self-actualization being effectively used as a motivational tool’? ‘What is the impact of self-actualization on an organizations growth and productivity’?

Towards a Value System in Management for the Twenty First Century

Books and Articles
Pannlal & Dr. Sunitha Kshatriya
Paper Published in the Journal of Management. Vol 1, No.2, pg. 38-44
Publication year: 1995

Abstract:

This paper elaborates on the futility of material prosperity without spiritual perspective, emphasizes the need to integrate and lists the anchor points.

It has now become quite common and customary to talk of our entry into the 21st century at all possible fora of elitist discussion. The basic reason underlying such a generous attention being bestowed on it is perhaps the enormous amount of expectation we seem to be nurturing with the turn of the century. The expectation perhaps is that somehow we shall be able to overcome all our problems and be able to secure a life of plenty with the onset of 21st century. It is always healthy to be optimistic about the future, but it is equally imperative that we try to visualize the possible scenario in the 21st century and to start action plans to brace ourselves to meet the challenges and opportunities that are likely to be thrown up.
As is widely understood from the indications and trends currently available, the coming century will be chiefly characterized by the “High-tech” approach in all areas of activity. The anticipation of the changes that are to follow the threshold of 21st century can be best be described in the words of Drucker ‘ we are indeed in the early stages of a major technological transformation one that is far more sweeping than the most ecstatic of futurologists yet realize.. Three hundred years of technology came to an end after World War II.
During those three centuries the model for technology was a mechanical one. This period began when the French Scientist Denis Papin envisaged the steam engine around 1680. It ended when we replicated in the nuclear explosion the events inside a star. For these three centuries advance in technology meant – as it does in mechanical processes – more speed. High temperatures and higher pressures. Since the end of World War II, however, the model of technology has been biological process, the events inside an organism. And in an organism processes are not organized around energy in the physicist’s meaning of the term. They are organized around information. There is no doubt that high tech, whether in the form of computers, or telecommunication, robots on the factory floor, or office automation, biogenetics or bioengineering is of immeasurable qualitative importance”.
Hence the effectiveness of the role of an individual in any situation is going to be magnified beyond recognition.

The Indian Edible Oils Scene - a Review

Books and Articles
Dr. Sunitha Kshatriya & Sunder, S.C
Journal of Management. Vol 1, No.1, pg. 69-82.
Publication year: 1994

Abstract:

Viewed in the Global Context, India is the largest producer of all oil seeds. It has the largest number of commercial varieties of oil seeds such as ground nut, rape and mustard, Sesame, Kardi, Niger, Soyabean, Sunflower, Castor, Copra, Cotton, Linseed, Rice bran and number of minor seeds of tree origin. It ranks first globally in respect of acreage especially under groundnut, sesame and niger, second in linseed and fourth in rape/mustard seed. Also it is the biggest grower of paddy which yield rice bran and cotton in terms of area and cotton seed oil. Also, India us the third biggest coconut growing country in the world.

Oil seeds constitute a major agricultural crop in India next only to food grains, cultivated over nearly 19.8 million hectares making it to almost 11% of the total cultivated area. The edible oil industry of the country has come of age. As a result, the demand supply gap has been narrowed down from 18-19 lakhs valued at Rs. 1061 crores in 1987-88 to mere two lakh tons valued at Rs. 40 crores in 1992-93. This growth was achieved both as a result of increase in the acreage of land brought under edible oil seed cultivation as also the yield per acre.

Several steps taken by the Government farmers , trade and industry are responsible for the happy state of affairs in the edible oil scene of India. This would also lead on to conclude that the consumer , the industry and so the Government are mighty happy and there is no cause for worry as for edible oil at least in the near future. But even a casual observer of the industry comes across several conflicting statements by people and disturbing news sometimes that leave them with a feeling that after all, all is not well and there is more to it than meets the eye.
